For many, eye makeup is part of everyday life, giving them confidence and joy. As with most things, a few simple habits can help keep eyes healthy while still enjoying the fun.
Here are a few tips I like to share:
-Replace products regularly – Mascara and liquid liners, in particular, should be swapped every 3 months. After that, the risk of bacterial growth goes up significantly.
-Always remove makeup before bed – It gives your eyes a chance to rest and helps prevent inflammation or blocked glands. One published case even linked years of sleeping in mascara to hard deposits under the eyelids, thankfully rare, but a useful reminder.
-Don’t share brushes or products – It’s an easy way for bacteria or viruses to travel, even among friends.
-Be gentle with application – Particles from eyeshadow or rough handling with curlers or wands can cause surface scratches, which, if infected, can lead to more serious problems.
None of this means people shouldn’t wear makeup. It just means being aware of how our eyes work and what keeps them at their best.
